Aaaaaand that’s a wrap! My first year of college is officially over … well, it’s been over for quite a while now, but I’ve had time to reflect on this past year and the things God has taught me over the past 2 semesters.
The thing about my freshman year was that I was expecting everything to be perfect and flawless. I found myself disappointed when it wasn’t that when there were obstacles, trials, and hardships. But the thing was, it WAS perfect. I was having a blast, but I was also fighting battle after battle. And you know what? This was the most perfect year. Because the obstacles, trials, and battles were not FLAWS in my perfect year. Every little thing was a part of God’s plan to shape me, and the outcome…was perfect.
God orchestrates our lives, the classes we are in, the people we encounter, and He connects all of it to teach us, and it’s all so we can bless the Kingdom.
From this, I began to discover God as an engineer.
Looking back, it is AMAZING to see how God PERFECTLY orchestrated every area in my life to direct me to specific lessons He wanted me to learn. Somehow, He connected every single thing and every single person. Jesus is the perfect engineer.
Another important thing I learned this year followed the theme of Christians among Christians.
Going to a Christian school and being surrounded by tons of people who also strive to ‘BE A LIGHT,’ I thought it was going to be so much easier. But man, was I wrong! It was so much harder. Labeling yourself as a Christian at a Christian school… I mean, no one cares! It doesn’t separate you. You don’t stand out. You are just another one of the “group.” Going to a faith-based university, yes there are non-Christians, but for the most part, everyone just assumes your spiritual standpoint. So now, being a Christian among Christians, you have to go out of your way, even more, to stand out and be different and to let Jesus’ light and love shine bright through you. Picture this… there’s a group of lights all put together. You don’t notice a specific light in particular, because they are all the same. There has to be something different and unique about one of them to catch your eye. As a Christians, we think of being amongst other Christians as a kind of like resting zone for us. We think that it’s the place where we can relax, we don’t have to worry about pointing them to Christ, and we can just fit in and follow the crowd because everyone’s doing “good.” However, even those who are already saved are constantly in need of more and more Jesus. We should befriend those who aren’t Christian, but God also calls us to build relationships with those who are, those who can pour into us and us in them. Even Christians go through difficult times and need someone to shed light on them. Being amongst other Christians, you must work even harder to differentiate yourself from the crowd, to be a loving reflection of Christ that even those who have already seen it need to see again. Don’t just be a Christian among other Christians. Don’t follow them, follow Jesus as your personal Savior.
Let me ask you this, how much more can the Body of Christ make in impact in the world if we are constantly working together in the Body to build it up?
Much love, Em
